Time to Monkey Around with CURIOUS GEORGE!
Like the books the series is based on, CURIOUS GEORGE is about a little monkey
with an insatiable curiosity who lives to find new things to discover, touch, and
spill. Everything is new to George and worth Investigating - ticking clocks that
come apart, roller skates that zoom down hills, and even soap bubbles that
float and pop. As youngsters discover their world, they have always identified with George as he explores his.
Parents will be pleased to know that this new daily series expands George’s world to include a host of colorful new characters and original
locales, while maintaining the charm of the beloved books. Each of the 30 half-hour episodes includes two
animated stories followed by short live-action pieces showing real kids who are investigating the ideas
that George introduces in his stories. The series is designed to inspire kids to explore science, math, and
engineering in the world around them.
"There's a movement among educators to address the current crisis in math, science, and engineering
education by introducing young kids to age appropriate content and encourage their interest," said
WGBH executive producer, Carol Greenwald. "CURIOUS GEORGE viewers have a great opportunity to
learn these concepts while they are entertained by these all-new, comic adventures."
It's important for not only kids, but also adults, to learn how easy it is to incorporate science, math, and
engineering play into everyday life. CURIOUS GEORGE aims to show parents and caregivers - who often
lack resources or training to do this - how to support children's science- and math-related play. Free
companion educational outreach materials will help them engage kids in hands-on science, math, and
engineering explorations. The Curious George Discovery Guide, and the Family Science Activity Booklet (in
English and Spanish), will be available later this month to download on the CURIOUS GEORGE website. In addition to these educational resources for teachers and families,
the CURIOUS GEORGE Web site will also provide games and activities for kids, and behind-the-scenes
interviews and information - all within a hands-on, interactive environment that mirrors the look and feel
of the show.
