A Conversation About Abraham Lincoln

As part of the Lincoln Legacy project, renowned author, historian and presidential scholar Doris Kearns Goodwin has taped an interview with Nick Clooney in which she and Mr. Clooney discuss Lincoln's impact on the nation, insights into the character of Abraham Lincoln's legacy and his unique brand of moral leadership. A Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Goodwin has written many historical books including Team of Rivals, the New York Times best seller about Abraham Lincoln, his leadership and the former rivals he chose to have serve as his cabinet during his presidency.

On the Same Page author Robert Olmstead

2008 On the Same Page author Robert Olmstead discusses Coal Black Horse with panelists from The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the Mercantile Library. Mr. Olmstead gives insight into his research and writing process as well as describing his plans for making Coal Black Horse the first book of a trilogy.

Teen Discussion of Bronx Masquerade

Bronx Masquerade brings poetry to teen literature. Now in its seventh year, On The Same Page is an annual community reading event hosted by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and supported by community partners including CET. The mission of this annual event is to enhance our sense of community through a shared reading event which encompasses all of Hamilton County. Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes was selected as the youth title for 2008. Named a Coretta Scott King Award Winner in 2003, Ms. Grimes' novel portrays a high school English class as they discover ways to express themselves to each other through poetry.

Jennifer Weikert, a teen librarian at the Westwood Branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, is joined by local teens to share their insights about this novel.

Christopher Myers Kids Book Author

CET Kids & Families presents an interview with Children's book author and illustrator Christopher Myers. Laura Dell, Program and Exhibits Coordinator for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, interviews Christopher Myers about his 12-year long career. Myers emphasizes the idea that he has always written and illustrated, being influenced by the literary environment he grew up in. Myers also elaborates on the ability of writing to effect the community and world in a positive manner.

Learn how the Cincinnati Zoo successfully bred a Sumatran Rhino as author Mary Kay Carson and photographer Tom Uhlman discuss the making of their latest book, Emi and Rhino Scientist. This panel discussion from the 2007 Books By the Banks Festival was moderated, by Dr. Monica Stoops, a rhino scientist. Dr. Stoops shares information on the types of rhinos.

The Settling and Unsettling of the Ohio Valley

Authors Robert Morgan (Boone, Gap Creek), Dark Rain Thom (Warrior Woman), and James Alexander Thom (Follow the River, Panther in the Sky) discuss how the coming of white people to the Ohio Valley was an integral turning point in the history of the whites and the Native Americans. This panel discussion was part of 2007 Books By the Banks.

The World According to the 4 B's

Authors Brennan Pearl, Jr (Half Married, Half Separated, and Half Crazy), Brian Groh (Summer People), Brian Leung (Lost Men), and Brock Clarke (The Arsonists Guide to Writers' Homes in New England) talk about how they got started as writers, their sources of inspiration, and their writing processes at this panel discussion from 2007 Books By The Banks festival.

The authors also share information about the collaborations they do as fund raisers for causes dear to them.
