Cincinnati Ballet's ''The Sammy Project!''
Barbara Kellar talks with Darrell Grand Moultrie and Shelley Washington about Cincinnati Ballet's ''The Sammy Project!'' which consists of two contrasting works by major modern choreographers. It was performed May 7 and 8, 2010.
The first performance was the world premiere of ''Simply Sammy,'' which is set to the music of Sammy Davis, Jr. This new work depicts the fascinating world of suffering and hope that defined the life of this famous entertainer. It has been choreographed by Darrell Grand Moultrie.
The second performance is ''In the Upper Room.'' This is Cincinnati Ballet's third acquisition from choreographer Twyla Tharp. It is considered one of her most brilliant works and is a combination of explosive dance and athletics. This work was staged by Shelley Washington.
