Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio

On this episode of Focus, Kathy Lehr talks with representatives from Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio about the importance of options for in-home and community care for older adults. Lucy Creekmore also joins Kathy to talk about how Council on Aging's experienced caregivers and the support system that they provide have helped to keep her husband at home in her care. Ms. Burke and Mr. Wilson also discuss why they feel there is a need to reform Ohio's long-term care system so that it is more balanced between institutional care and home/community care. They claim that this will give Ohio seniors more options and be less costly for Ohio taxpayers. This reform could also bring Ohio more in line with most other states, which recognized years ago that they could save Medicaid dollars by helping more seniors receive care in their homes, rather than in costly institutions.
