Voices of Giving: Barry Steinberg
Barry and his late wife, Janice, have had a life-long relationship with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. In 1997, ''Janice's Garden'' was dedicated in Zoo's Red Panda Woodland to remember Mrs. Steinberg after she lost her battle with cancer. As Barry relates, ''Janice loved life, savored nature's bounty to the fullest, and loved the Cincinnati Zoo.'' Mr. Steinberg believes the Cincinnati Zoo stands head and shoulders above its peers. He describes the Zoo as ''a true treasure that Cincinnati is and should be very proud of.'' Hal Klink, Mr. Steinberg's financial advisor for over 15 years, is a senior Vice President and Trust Officer with USBank. Working together revisiting Barry's estate plan in 2009, it was only natural that Mr. Steinberg's strong personal commitment to the Zoo would have a central role in the gifting strategy. What resulted was a sizable increase to Mr. Steinberg's original gift to the zoo through a bequest involving both his living trust and IRA. Mr. Steinberg's estate gift will be directed towards a major capital project at the Zoo. This gift will help ensure that the zoo’s remarkable level of excellence will continue to evolve and thrive far into the future. It is with great thanks that we recognize Mr. Steinberg's generosity and forethought and Mr. Klink's pivotal role in helping make this gift a reality.
